About Me

I have been painting for about 10 years and am predominantly self taught.  I enjoy experimenting with various techniques discovering what works best for me.  As my style is bold, colourful and vibrant, I mainly paint in oil, pastel and acrylic, but occasionally dabble in watercolour and pen and wash.

I have been enjoying photography for a slightly shorter time.

What inspires me?

I am inspired by nature, the countryside, coastal scenes and architecture and living on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire there is a lot of inspiration.  I also have a special place in my heart for Normandy in France.  The countryside is beautiful, along with the varied architecture.  Although it is probably more well known for its timbered buildings, there are also stone built properties.  Of course, Honfleur is an artist's paradise and there is much to see around Le Vieux Bassin.  I also find a lot of inspiration on my other travels abroad.

Who inspires me and why?

Sherree Valentine Daines - I love the femininity in her paintings of The Season and also the innocence of children playing at the seaside.

Philip Gray - For his dramatic seascapes.

Sue Finniss - A local painter from the Salisbury area.  Sue has painted many views of the City of Salisbury and The Close.

Beatrix Potter -  An all round inspiration not just for her illustrations and stories in her books but for what she achieved in her life.

Daniel Trussart and Jean Quéméré - for their vibrant and atmospheric paintings of Normandy.

François Quéré - for his still life and French landscapes.

These are just a few of my favourites, there are many more!
